Cloth diapers or disposables? We can do both!

Would you expect this question from a manufacturer of cloth diapers and sustainable menstrual products? A few years ago, we couldn’t have imagined such a combination either.

For us, cloth diapers are still clearly the best choice – for the baby, for our planet, and for that good feeling of doing the right thing. However, if you’ve been diapering for a while, you know very well that it isn’t always easy. There are moments when cloth diapers are simply a bit more complicated: a seaside holiday, a weekend in a cabin, a sleepover at grandma’s, or perhaps just one diaper a day when running a whole washing machine load would be more of an ecological faux pas.

It’s exactly for such cases that we developed Bambe diapers – disposable diapers that differ from conventional “throwaway diapers” like night and day. They are made for everyone who wants to stay true to their ecological values even in challenging situations.

Let’s take a closer look together at why Bambe diapers are considered eco-friendly and why we fully support them.

Bambe diapers are made right here in the Czech Republic. They don’t travel halfway across the world, which significantly reduces their carbon footprint. The production is short, efficient, and as environmentally friendly as possible.

Our main production partner has received numerous international awards – including the CO₂ Neutral Company designation. Their approach, “Innovations first,” is reflected throughout the entire production process – from energy efficiency to material development.

Why do we say that Bambe diapers are ecological?

The basis of every ecological decision lies in the materials used – their origin, manufacturing, and processing. And that’s exactly what we at Bambe focus on. We carefully select suppliers and raw materials that meet not only strict safety and health standards but also sustainability criteria.

What are our diapers made of?

The foundation is a nonwoven layer made of plant-based polyethylene derived from sugarcane. This comes from sustainable plantations and is certified under the international ISCC+ system, which monitors both the ecological cultivation and the ethical and sustainable processing. Through a chemical process, the sugarcane becomes polyethylene (PE), which together with polypropylene (PP) forms the base. Our diapers also include a top layer with 15% organic cotton.

The absorbent core material partly consists of cellulose (wood pulp) with FSC-TCF certification (Forest Stewardship Council – Totally Chlorine Free). That means it comes from sustainably managed forests and is bleached without chlorine – using only hydrogen peroxide and oxygen.

We also use SAP gel (superabsorbent polymer) – an essential component without which the diaper couldn’t perform its primary function. We’ve chosen high-quality Japanese SAP gel, manufactured in Belgium. Currently, it is the most environmentally friendly option, as it ensures maximum absorption with minimal material usage. In other words: thanks to SAP gel, fewer diapers are needed for the same amount of urine, making it more ecological overall than less effective alternatives. SAP is not biodegradable, but it is recyclable, non-toxic, and gentle on sensitive baby skin.

Our SAP gel supplier has been actively working for years on developing a recyclable core or biomass alternatives. And we believe that this combination of functionality, transparency, and real ecological commitment is exactly why Bambe diapers deserve the label “eco-friendly” – without quotation marks or greenwashing.

Are the materials used truly safe?

Children’s safety is our top priority. Not only do we carefully select each supplier, but every material must be supported by a safety data sheet. Without that, we wouldn’t be able to obtain the international certifications that Bambe diapers proudly carry today.

The diapers are designed to be suitable even for the most sensitive baby skin – they contain no perfumes, parabens, latex, or other common allergens.

International certifications instead of empty words

Diapers must meet basic legal standards – but we didn’t want to stop there. We don’t want to merely comply, we want to be better, safer, and more eco-conscious. That’s shown not by empty promises but by certifications based on real tests and inspections

  • OEKOTEX® STANDARD 100: Assurancethat no part ofthediaperfrom adhesives to elasticscontain sharmful substances. The certification guarantees safety even for newborns and meets strict health criteria.
  • FSC (Forest Stewardship Council): A globally recognized standard for sustainable forestry. The certificate confirms that the cellulose comes from forests managed in an ecological, social, and economically responsible way. No deforestation at the expense of nature o rlocal communities.
  • Blauer Engel: One of the stric test eco-labels in Europe. This German certification is awarded only to products that meet high standards of health, sustainability, and resource efficiency. For parents, it means a proven eco-friendly choice without compromise.

And that’s not all. A full overview of obtained certifications can be found in a separate article.

What about the carbon footprint?

Bambe diapers are produced directly in the Czech Republic – in a modern factory that has been officially certified as CO₂ neutral since 2022

That means the entire production process is conducted with minimal climate impact – without unnecessary emissions and pollution. Energy, raw materials, and logistics are optimized to avoid waste and harm to nature.

Storage is local, too. Bambe diapers travel only a few kilometers – sometimes even less – before reaching you. Shorter routes = fewer emissions = a better choice for our children and the planet.

What do parents who have actually tried Bambe say?

Ecology is not a matter of perfection. It’s about everyday choices.

Using cloth diapers is one option. And like any option, cloth diapers have their exceptions – long car rides, seaside holidays, mountain trips, nights away from home, or times when you only need one diaper every few days with the diaper-free approach. For exactly these situations, there are Bambe diapers. They are not a competitor to cloth diapers – they are a practical complement.

We selected natural materials and designed them to be as eco-friendly as possible while still fulfilling their function. That’s why we use them without guilt whenever cloth diapers are simply not the best choice for us. Because we believe that every step toward sustainability counts.

Who are Bambe diapers ideal for?

  • Parents diapering on the go or on vacation.
  • As a backup for elimination communication (the adhesive tabs hold up to multiple uses).
  • Grandparents, who can quickly feel overwhelmed by cloth diapering .
  • Parents dealing withone nighttime pee per week”.
  • As a more eco-friendly Plan B solution.

They are thought through down to the smallest detail. Free from unnecessary chemicals, eco-friendly, and designed to be suitable even for sensitive baby skin. When cloth diapers aren’t an option, Bambe is the safe choice.

Thank you for using cloth diapers. Thank you for thinking. Thank you for seeking solutions.

We know that cloth diapers are the best choice. But we also know that reality sometimes looks different than we imagine. And for exactly those moments, there’s Bambe.

Diapers that care for the planet – and for you.
