Meet the team! Jitka Sestrienková, Back Office and Expedition Manager

Bamboolik - Meet the team! Jitka Sestrienková, Back Office and Expedition Manager - Czech Cloth Diapers, Zero Waste, Eco-Friendly Home    Today it's time to meet our Jitka, our lovely assistant and right and left hand :)

Another installment of our "Meet the team" series.

Hi, Jitka! So, what brought you to Bamboolik and how long have you been working here?

My start with Bamboolik was purely coincidental. I was with my daughter at her swimming lessons and stumbled upon a leaflet advertising a job opening at Bamboolik. I still remember what it said! It was kind of witty, so it resonated with me. At the time, I was at parental leave with my daughter but that was coming to an end and I knew I didn’t want to go back to my profession just yet. Before my daughter was born, I worked as a waitress but those work hours are long and I knew I wouldn’t want that while my daughter’s still little. Bamboolik advertised flexible working hours and that was exactly what I wanted. So I replied to that ad and it’s been more than 3 years now.

Jitka daughter's Ema, who we've just mentioned, grew a little since the swimming lessons and traded swimming for horse riding lessons instead.

What do you do in Bamboolik?

I’m an assistant and I supervise sending out packages. My job entails mostly paperwork (like making sure our accountant has all the documentation in order) plus organising our expedition. I also serve customers at trade shows (I wish trade show could take place again!), that is similar to my original profession, the direct contact with people. I miss that.

I like that my job at Bamboolik is pretty diverse, it’s never the same every day. I wouldn’t like having a stereotype kind of job.

The most important reason you’re still here?

Definitely the team. And I like that my job has a purpose. I appreciate how everything’s open to discussion here. For instance, during lockdowns (with even the schools closed) we would always change who would go to work to pack orders as we all had children at home who had to be taken care of. I still appreciate the flexible working hours the most – that’s what got me interested in working here in the first place. Also, it’s no problem to change my hours as we go – like this year, my daughter started school which meant I come to work an hour earlier as schools here start sooner than kindergartens. It was absolutely no problem.

How many children do you have? And would you say it’s demanding to work and be a mum at the same time?

Ema, my daughter, is 7 now and is a first grader. I also have two stepchildren, from my husband’s first marriage. They’re adults now, both over 20. They babysit for us from time to time, that is great :)

So balancing work and family life is not really a problem. Plus, little Ema is a calm child and never had any problem doing things with me.

Most favourite Bamboolik product?

I found Bamboolik too late to try out the diapers so my go-to products are our eco-friendly home items – Bread Bag, cloth napkins, Zero Waste bags.

Some recent funny episode from work?

Well, last time I found out two days before our teambuilding for the whole company (about 20 people) that nobody booked the room we wanted to use for it. Everybody thought somebody else did it J It wasn’t very funny at the exact moment when I found out but everything turned out well in the end so now it’s just a funny episode :)
