Holiday with a Baby: How to Approach Diapers?
The Bamboolik team has a lot of children altogether! So we’re not shy to call ourselves experts of sorts — at least when it comes to diapers. And we’re happy to share our knowledge! Here are our tips on how to deal with diapers when going on holiday with a baby.
Your Holiday Destination
Why is it important? It decides whether you need to pack diapers for your entire stay or just for a few days and buy the rest once you get to your holiday destination.
Lonely Island or a Remote Country House
A super cool water village on Bali or a Ferienhouse in Austrian Alps. With remote places, the tax you pay for the quiet and the calm, is the, well, remoteness. Which often translates to no shops in the vicinity.
1. A quick run “just for the diapers“ might mean a hour-long trip
Are you ready to do these trips regularly? If you are, be prepared that your favourite diaper brand might not be available on a remote Greek island. We’re not being sarcastic here — babies tend to have very sensitive skin and even a small change in their diaper routine might cause irritation.
2. Inquire about the bin day if you plan to stay longer
Using disposable diapers? Imagine the bags and bags of used diapers. For, say, 2 weeks. The consequences of those can be:
- Used diapers won’t fit into the bin. Have a plan what to do with them in such case.
- Even if the bags do fit, they won’t smell of roses. Especially on hot summer days, the odour coming from your bin might become unbearable. In just a matter of days.
Could Cloth Diapers Be the Answer?
So, how to approach diapers on holiday? The solution could be going back to our roots. All you need is a washing machine in your vacation home, and you’re set. Most holiday facilities do have a washer that you can use, and when it comes to drying, you don’t really have to worry about that — everything dries fast in the summer heat.
Already a cloth diapers user? Perfect! Take your favourite pieces with you on holiday.
